

Margaret E. (Hix) Miller, 98, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015, at her son’s home in Cleveland, MO, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 27th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4101 East 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the mass. Kindly omit flowers; instead please make memorial contributions to the Fr. John Hix Center (c/o Bishop Sullivan Center, Kansas City, MO).
Margaret was born on September 14, 1916, in Kansas City, MO, the oldest daughter of Catherine and Leslie Hix. She was a graduate of St. Teresa’s Academy and St. Teresa Junior College (now, Avila University). Margaret worked over the years at Country Club Dairy and Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, MO, where she retired in 1981, as a Pioneer member. She was one of the first two females accepted into the Engineering Universe at the Lee’s Summit plant. In retirement, her volunteer work included hospital and nursing home visitation, meals on wheels for St. Anthony’s Parish in Camdenton, MO, and as an auxiliary volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center for over 30 years.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred B. Miller, Sr.; brother, Fr. John L. Hix, sisters, Catherine L. Dougherty and Patricia A. Moore; and two sons, James D. Miller and Thomas J. Miller.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Patricia M. Hix, CSJ of Cut Bank, MT; and brother-in-law, Dr. John C. Moore of Bloomington, IN. She leaves behind her children, Mary Kay Valenzuela of St. Louis, MO; Pete Miller (Kathy), of Goodyear, AZ; Arthur Miller (Kathy) of Cleveland, MO; Gerald Miller (Tina) of Kansas City, MO; Jane Finlay (Mel) of Florence, MT; Sharon Manion (Pat) of Wichita, KS; and a daughter-in-law Jo-Ann Miller of Lee’s Summit, MO. She also leaves 24 grandchildren: Shelly, Suzi; Holly, Noel; Melissa, Lisa, Matt, Sarah; Dorothy, Katie, Jerry, Jimmy; Marianne, Paul, Ted, Melanie, Jack, Tom, Jim, Mike, Margaret; Kristen; Andy, T.J.; 23 great-grandchildren, Kekoa, Kai; Katherine, Elizabeth, Emma, Olivia, Logan; Cameron, Ryan, Keegan, Maddy, Maggie, Aspen, Olive, Wyeth, Loden, Oren, Emily, Abby, Anna, Mallory, Kennedy, Kolby and one great-great-grandson, Cruz. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Margaret will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
