Marie was born April 24, 1955, in Detroit, MI, to the union of Eugene and Cornelia Kendrick, and was respectfully raised by Helen Kendrick (“Momma”). She was preceded in death by both parents, a daughter, Lisa Marie Kendrick, and brothers Ralph Kendrick and Robert Kendrick.
Marie was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District, graduating in 1973 from Central High School. She earned her Nationally Certified Psychiatric Technician certificate and diligently worked for her employers, including Western Missouri Mental Health Center for more than 25 years and Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City, MO, before retiring, and was recognized as Psych Tech of The Year on several occasions. Marie left her mark on the hearts of everyone she met.
Marie’s closest friends describe her as kind, considerate, courageous and simple–her last words to a dear friend were, “I’ve lived a good life and I appreciate everybody.” Her animated facial expressions and her warm embrace were priceless.
As a caretaker at heart, Marie devoted herself to her mother’s care and attention as she aged into dementia, and required round-the-clock supervision and guidance. She loved to read, crossword puzzles, good food–especially chicken (often saying “What you cookin’?”), Pepsi, and laughed and giggled all the time.
Marie leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Helen Kendrick; a daughter, Charisse Barrett, and grandchildren Taylor Garrett and Sidney Parks, and a great-granddaughter, Alayah Garrett; sister Christine Valdez (Joey); nephew Craig (“CJ”) Kendrick, great-nephew Javon Eskridge, and a host of loving relatives and special friends.
