

Marieann Rose Koehler, 72, of Roeland Park, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 17th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 51st and Mission Road, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, August 16th at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes, Avila College, Vitae Caring Foundation, Kansas City Cancer Center, or to St. Luke’s Hospice House.
Marieann was born June 29th 1941 to Gerald J and Rosetta Altman in Kansas City. She attended St. Peters Grade School and Hogan High School. She graduated with a BS degree from Avila (College of St. Teresa). She worked as a Dietitian at St. Margaret’s and St. Luke’s Hospitals. Marieann worked for the new Research Hospital with cooperation of Midwest Research Institute to transition the Dietary Department onto data systems, the first in the city. Later all hospitals followed the program she helped launch.
On July 29, 1962 she married the love of her life Vince Koehler, Sr. and joined St. Agnes Parish where they raised their family in the Catholic faith. Marieann lived the vocation of wife and mother while selflessly volunteering and participating in organizations; PTO, School Board, Church Activities Committee, Altar Society, Fish Fry Chairman, President of Bishop Miege Mothers Club, Rockhurst Circle, St. Agnes Choir, Sewing Circle, Cub Scout Den Mother, Homeroom Mother, and German American Club of America, many film clubs, plus grandmother for 21 grandkids. Marieann loved to cook, garden, sew and spend time with her family and friends.
Marieann was closely involved with her husband’s hobby producing a cable show for 15 years called “Entertainment Spectrum” EntertainmentSpectrum.com and writing columns for local papers with Vince. Marieann accompanied Vince to countless movies, plays and concerts while working behind the scenes to finalize articles and shows. After her husband passed away Marieann wrote columns for Johnson’s County Gazette.
Marieann is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald J and Rosetta Altman. She is survived by two daughters, Gerry McGraw (Chris), and Mary Kay Mitchell (John); three sons, Vince, Jr. (Brenda), Paul (Renee), and John (Kimberly) + 21 grandchildren. Jeff, Michael, Alex, John McGraw; Danny, Mark, Bailey Mitchell; Reagan, Alicia, Abigail, Lucia, Felicity, Mary, Matthew Koehler; Mallie, Brittney, Natalie, Emorey Koehler; Andrew, Madelyn, Maxwell Koehler. She’s also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
We are forever grateful to those who helped her in her final year when she was no longer able to care for herself. Patsy Mitchell was her fellow Golden Girl. Margaret Wichman cared closely for her. The staff of Brighton Gardens cared for her daily needs. Marieann shared many fond memories with her sister-in-law Judy Guyn, and her nieces Diane, Annette and Ellen. She enjoyed time with her extended families; The Jenicke’s/ Maidic’s, Koehler’s/Kopp’s, Koop’s and Altman’s.
