Marjorie Sturgeon Currence

Born the second daughter and preceded in death to Leland and Lela (Snider) Sturgeon in Lawrence, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Sturgeon New. Also, preceded in death by son Daryl M. Currence, 1954 - 1991.

The family moved to Passaic, MO before her second birthday. In a two room school she attended grade school, traveling into Butler, Mo to attend and join the 1939 graduating class from Butler High School. She went onto Nursing School in Kansas City General Hospital with University of Kansas City, graduating in the class of 1944 and was licensed as an RN. She was married to Roy M Currence (of Eldon, MO), starting a family, building a home and in 1948, moving from Kansas City to Linden (now Gladstone) where she lived until 1988, raising her family, presided over PTA, she loved caring for the youngest attendees in the nursery at church, planted and cared for flowers, berry’s and gardens, and neighbors. In the 1970’s she refreshed her nursing skills and was relicensed as an RN and worked at a Nursing Rehabilitation facility in Smithville, MO. Then matching retirement with her husband.

She is deeply missed by her surviving daughter Nancy C Byrd and partner Steve Leiserson of San Diego; son Gary(Diane) of Gladstone. She was preceded in death by son Daryl,1991(Louanne) Also leaving grandchildren Michael (Lara), Christine (Richard) Kugleman, Adam, Aaron(Chrissy),and Bryan Currence, Elizabeth (Jason) Eastburn, and Meredith(Jeremy) Zimmerman. Great grandchildren Harrison Byrd (Tricia), Nolan Byrd, Connor and Ava Currence, and Annabelle and Kaitlin Zimmerman.

Marjorie loved the “kids” that helped her live her best life while staying at Linden Woods Village for the past 20 months! Thank you for taking care of, loving and teasing and responding to her come backs! Our special thanks for the team from Luminos Hospice and their support thru-out the past 3 months; she remained her feisty, sweet, ornery lovable self to the very end!

The family will hold an internment Friday, January 3, 2025, at the family burial area in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone, MO.
