Mark was born in Kansas City, MO on October 30, 1949 to Louis and Sallie Minter. He attended Raytown High School and graduated in 1967. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic- O-Say. Mark was a Sergeant for the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served from 1969 to 1975. After returning, he met his wife, Rhonda, “Kay” and they were married on December 26, 1975. Together they had three children; Gwen (1979), Lonnie (1981), and Michelle (1983). He received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from UMKC in 1981 and later received his Master in Business Administration from Rockhurst University in 1988. Mark held employment with Burns & McDonnell, Butler Manufacturing, Marion Merrell Dow, and later retired from MAMTC.
Family was the most important thing to him. He loved his children, wife, parents, and siblings with all he had and was so very proud of his granddaughters. Mark was meticulous about lawn care spending hours outside each weekend when the weather allowed. He always handled home improvement projects himself, even though several times he should have left it to the professionals. Weekly Saturday morning coffee dates with his parents and Sunday family dinners were a must for Mark. He passionately watched every football game his son, Lonnie played in from Pop Warner to High School Varsity. Sunday morning shopping trips and breakfast at Hy-Vee with his daughter, Gwen were a weekly staple for years. Mark was a huge fan of his daughter, Michelle’s home cooking and would make visits that lasted through the evening so he could have dinner with them.
He loved his 2004 Harley Davidson Fatboy and truly enjoyed every ride he got to attend with his family. He enjoyed woodworking and would spend hours with his brother, Tom at the barn working on projects together. He made a beautiful wooden cradle that was used by all five of his granddaughters and will be passed down to future generations. He treasured the mornings walks followed by coffee at McDonalds with his sister, Marion. He developed a love of dancing. He attended multiple dance lessons a week and even competed in ballroom dancing. He was the best partner in the father/daughter dance with his granddaughter, Ellie in her dance recital one year.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Mark was preceded in death by his wife; Rhonda “Kay” Minter, his parents; Louis & Sallie Minter, and his brothers, Larry & Tom Minter. Survivors include his children; Gwen (Brian) Maxwell, Lonnie (Amber) Minter, and Michelle (Joe) Barnes, his granddaughters; Ellie Maxwell, Adrianna Barnes, Riley Barnes, Bella Minter & Sophia Barnes, his sister; Marion (Bryan) Hurst, and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for Mark will be held Monday, September 26, 2022, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Following the Visitation will be a Graveside Service at 3:00pm in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
