Mary Charleen Jensen (known to everyone as Charleen) passed away October 18, 2019 at age 78 in Lee’s Summit, MO. She was born March 31, 1941, in Atoka, TN to Carl and Sadie Cullum Scott. She grew up on the family farm as the oldest of five siblings. After high school, Charleen worked for New York Life Insurance in Memphis, TN. In Memphis she met the love of her life, Nebraska native Terry Jensen, who was stationed at the Naval base in Millington, TN. They soon married and relocated to San Diego, CA. While stationed in California, they were blessed with two children, Terry Jr. and Janet. After leaving the Navy, the family moved to Omaha, NE. Charleen was a stay-at-home mom until her children started school. She then worked in the school cafeteria and eventually became the Assistant Director of Food Services for the Millard Public School District. In 1982, the family moved to Kansas City, MO. Charleen worked at Blue Valley Federal Savings and Loan and the Resolution Trust Corporation. In addition to her career, Charleen was a long-time member of the Royal Ridge Chapter of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). She served as ABWA Chapter President and was honored as Woman of the Year by the members. Charleen has been a devoted member of One Spirit United Methodist Church in Raytown, MO for over 26 years. Charleen loved shopping at antique stores, spending time with her family, and traveling the world with her beloved husband of 58 years.
Charleen joins both of her parents, her younger brother, Lynn Scott, and grandson, Geoffery Jensen, in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Terry, her son, Terry Jr. (Julie) Jensen, daughter, Janet Lester, grandsons, Trevor and Tyler, granddaughter-in-law, Cherie Jensen, great grandson, Atticus, step-great grandson, Bryce Warren, brothers Carlton and Glynn Scott, and sister, Brenda Scott. Charleen, you will be missed for your beautiful smile, outgoing personality, and sincere love for life. We will keep you in our hearts and love you forever.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to One Spirit Methodist Church, Raytown MO, University of Kansas Cancer Center or Kansas City Hospice can be made in Charleen’s memory.
Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Tuesday, October 22 followed by a funeral service at 11am at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
Burial will be at Ravenscroft Cemetery in Burlison, Tennessee.
