

Visitation will be on Friday, February 9, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. (Rosary at 7pm) at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, February 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mary Kay was born in Springfield, Missouri, April 7, 1915 to George A. and Bertha F. Kunkel. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she was an accomplished artist and professional seamstress creating hundreds of wedding dresses, school uniforms and other fashions. She was a life-long member of the Tip-Toppers Club.
She married Joseph B. Duethman in 1949 and moved to Kansas City where she raised three children.
An avid volunteer, Mary Kay was active in the St. Therese Little Flower Church and PTA, past president of the St. Therese Little Flower Altar Society, past president of the Good Shepherd Manor Guild and, with Joe, managed the Good Shepherd Manor thrift store for many years. She was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and until her death volunteered at the Redemptorist Food Pantry.
Devoted to her Catholic Faith, Mary Kay was a member of Visitation Catholic Church where she attended Mass and prayed the Rosary daily.
Her parents, her husband, a sister and brother preceded her in death. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Greg and Janice Duethman, Joan and Tim Shramek, and Steve and Karen Duethman; eight granddaughters, Amy (Andrew) Stafford, Annie, Abby, Lucy, Beatrice and Mary Grace Duethman, Anna and Maddie Shramek, and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lily Stafford.
Mary Kay’s family would like to thank Helen Neenan, Mike Vargon, Katherine Goldman and Tom and Jenoys Usher for their help and friendship through the years.
