Mary Dolores (Lake) Fields, 87, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House on April 12, 2014. Mary was born October 7, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Andrew and Anna Lake. She graduated from Jennings High School. Mary met the love of her life, Robert G. Fields of Terre Haute, Indiana, in a chance meeting in a St. Louis dance hall where Bob was on a weekend furlough from Fort Leonard Wood military base during WWII. He followed her home and the rest, as they say, is history. They were married on October 26, 1946. From that point on, her vocation was her family, which included raising her eight children; five sons and three daughters. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her faith, her family, and her flower garden. A perfect day for her would always include a trip to Family Tree Nursery. She also loved hosting the holiday gatherings every year at her home.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert G. Fields in 2006, her parents, her brother Robert Lake, and sister, Jacqueline Drain.
Mary is survived by her eight children. Ann (Marty) Wessinger of Platte City, Bob (Valera) Fields of Omaha, Nebraska; Jane (John) Bolin of Overland Park; Rick (Denise) Fields of Kansas City; Tom Fields of Shawnee; Jim (Anne) Fields of Lenexa; Sue (Stuart) Wilkins of Overland Park; and Don (Laura) Fields of Shawnee. Mary is also survived by her brother Richard (Donna) Lake of Grover, Missouri.
She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, with another great-grandson due in August, and nieces and nephews.
