

A memorial service will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 1:00pm, at Kansas City United Church of Christ, 205 West
65th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, with a reception and time to greet the family following (accessible entrance on south of church or Linden Road; on-street parking). Private entombment in Mount Moriah Cemetery Mausoleum.
Mary was born August 29, 1929 in Friendship, Tennessee, the second daughter of Russell and Lenora Rooks. She married her husband Robert F. Hill (Bob) on July 27, 1947. They lived in Nashville, Tennessee and Savannah, Georgia before making their home in Kansas City following Bob's discharge from the US Air Force in 1958.
She was an accountant for Aladdin Industries in Nashville, Sears and Roebuck in Savannah, and Vice President of Growth Industries in Grandview, Missouri, where she retired in 2012. She was a past member of Grandview United Methodist Church and a past member of the Grandview Chamber of Commerce and Grandview Industrial Development Authority. She moved to Tallgrass Creek in Overland Park, Kansas, in 2015.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Erma and Frank Hill; her brother, Jimmy Taylor Rooks; and her brother-in-law, Frank Caruso.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Daniel Hartzler; her granddaughter Elizabeth Hartzler; her sister, Bettye Caruso; nieces Sandra Wendt (John) and Diane David (Don); nephews Tom Caruso (Carol), Tony Caruso (Shelley), and Joe Caruso; Jimmy's partner, Dr. E. Ramon Arango; great-nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Her last year was made more meaningful thanks to the loving assistance of Millie Macias. She received tender care in her final weeks from the Tallgrass Creek medical staff, the nurses and aides at Blue Sage Point west wing, and the dear caregivers at Ascend Hospice.
Mary was above all else a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
