Mary Theresa Lathrop

She was the daughter of Mary and Lewis M. Siegfried. She honored her father’s service as the Chief of Police for the Kansas City Police Department by being a member of the Kansas City Police Historical Society.

Theresa attended The Loretta Academy Grade School and High School graduating in 1942. She then attended Kansas City University (UMKC). She met Don Lathrop on a blind date and they were married two years later. They enjoyed a happy fulfilled life together. Their family of five children grew to include eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren with three more to come in the near future. Proceeding her in death are her husband Don, son Larry, and lifelong friend Pat Beck, who was like a sister. Theresa leaves behind sons: Keith (Ramona) Lathrop and Tim (Babette) Lathrop and daughters: Donna (Allen) Newland and Kathy (Terry) Houlton; grandchildren: Teri, Steve, Tim Jr., Ashley, Brandon, Ryan, Stephanie, Megan, Andy, Abby, and Alex.

A devout Catholic, she was a long time parishioner of St. John Francis Regis Church. Theresa spent many enjoyable hours volunteering and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She and Don were blessed with many wonderful friends in their faith community.

In retirement, Theresa and Don thoroughly enjoyed their home at the Lake of the Ozarks, especially when family and friends visited. Traveling was a treasured pastime in retirement. Their move to Little Sisters of the Poor was the true joy in their golden years. Words cannot adequately express the sincere appreciation for all who supported and cared for Theresa and Don.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, or St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church Building Fund.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 17th at St. John Francis Regis Church, 8941 James A Reed Rd. The rosary will be prayed at 9:00AM, visitation from 9:30-10:30AM, and the Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30AM. Graveside services will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
