Maryanne Darata, loving wife and mother passed away September 17, 2015, just four days short of her 90th birthday. Maryanne was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but called Riverside her home for over 58 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Charles Darata, her one and only love. The family moved to Missouri in 1951. Raising three children, she is survived by Ronald A. Darata (wife Janette) of Plano, Texas; Pamela J. Darata of Riverside, Missouri; and Anthony C. Darata, II (wife Kelly) of Plano, Texas.
Maryanne had a strong passion for life and developed a strong and trusting faith in her Lord. She loved singing and dancing. Prior to her marriage she worked in the Public Relations department for the Chesapeake Ohio, Railroad. She fondly recanted wonderful stories of working downtown during war time, memories of being part of the hustle and bustle, and even bumping in to Frank Sinatra as well as many more stories that brought smiles to her face.
She was the middle child of five other siblings and is survived by her brother Dr. Earl Willhoit of Savannah, GA, and her sister Polly Lewis also of Savannah, Georgia. The only one of six children to have red hair, she was proud to be a redhead and joked that it gave her a “fiery spirit”. She was giving and selfless to her family as well as others, always quick to share her faith in Christ. Indeed this faith touched and changed many lives, a trait her children always were proud of. It was her bold, fearless personality that kept her interested in politics, charity and life. Never one to be without an opinion, she didn’t hesitate to let you know if you were straying from the path!
She held a special place in her heart for City Union Mission and Kansas City Rescue Mission. Maryanne supported both for many, many years. We would be remiss if we did not express her appreciation and respect for the care and friendship demonstrated by the Riverside Police and Fire Departments.
A great friend of many, loving mother and wife, Maryanne touched many lives. We joyfully celebrate her life and the knowledge that she has a new home with her heavenly Father.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
