

Maxwell Mason Jewell, 61, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at his home. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 3rd, 10:30 a.m., at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 2nd, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 6811 West 63rd Street, Suite 202, Shawnee Mission, KS, 66202.
Max was born December 11, 1948, in Garden City, KS. He began school in Holcolmb, KS, and moved to Lee’s Summit, MO, when he was seven. He Graduated from Lee’s Summit, High School in 1965, where he was an Eagle Scout and high school football player for the Lee’s Summit Tigers. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri in 1969, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and served as Vice President of the house. Max next attended Washington University where he received his MBA. After college, Max joined the Air Force Reserve. Next, he began his career with Marion Labs where he worked until 1985. Max then went to work at the FIKE Corporation where he was instrumental in developing the corporation into an international entity and where he served as President and CEO of the corporation. Max was known for his love of all sports including the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs but he especially loved the Mizzou Tigers and he never missed a game. He was also dedicated to service and this led him to work on the Lee’s Summit City Council as well as serve as a scout master for the Boy Scouts. Max will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father to his children and a great friend to many.
Max was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Mason Jewell; brother, Charles Evan Jewell; and stepfather, Haley Shobe. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Jewell of the home and his mother, Ruth Elizabeth Shobe of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughters, Jaime and husband Troy Medley of Laguna Beach, CA; Megan Jewell of Las Vegas, NV; stepdaughters, Stephanie and husband Bill Herndon of Las Vegas, NV; Alicia Hamm of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Gracie, Paige and Claire Medley; brother, William Kent Jewell and his sisters, Bonnie Hensley and Jan Hambright; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
