Born on December 25, 1963 to Wayne and Mary Ann (McCullough) Deatherage in Kansas City, MO. Later graduated from Saint Pius X High School in 1981 then went to UMKC for his business degree. He was a devoted husband to Tammy (Walker) Deatherage Independence, Mo and a loving father to Christy Walker Kansas City, Mo and youngest daughter Amanda Cole (Derek) Oak Grove, MO. Papa to London Blu Walker, Ryah Cole, and Caellum Cole.
Michael was hardworking and dedicated at everything he did. He started his early years working at Western Auto, Safety-Kleen, and finally dedicated years spent with QuikTrip Corporation as a manager and then auditor for stores all around KC metro area. He was always brilliant with numbers and was excellent at his job. You could not beat his personable attitude and friendly dementor for those around him. Michael could make friends with anyone, and he did. His laugh was contagious. Despite always being hard at work he made sure to make time for his family and a passion or two along the way.
As a spouse, friend, father, brother, and son, he may not have always wanted to be the center of attention but, he deserves years of being honored. Michael was a humble man with a heart of gold who would do anything for anyone. He had a wonderful sense of humor and left a lasting mark of kindness that impacted anyone that knew him.
Michael always enjoyed having get together with friends and family for all occasions. Especially the Chiefs! The whole neighborhood knew when a game was on! Get out your “bad call brick” the house was always packed. You could really say he was an avid KC sports enthusiast all around. He loved being outside as much as possible just to catch some fresh air, sunshine, and enjoy the outdoors. Maybe even some bird watching including his favorite hummingbirds on the porch. This outdoor love even included being in scouts as a kid and later baiting the fishing hooks for the daughter that hated touching worms and later the grandkids fishing poles as well. He loved every minute of it as he was spending time with family. Going fishing was even more enjoyable if it was spent fishing in the back yard pond near his family’s home with others during get togethers. There were several trophies won from playing in pool leagues and tournaments. Was also rather good at playing horseshoes. Even built his own horseshoe boxes in the backyard for when friends would come over to play. Sharing and remembering memories was important to him as you would often see with some kind of camera in his hand taking photos and capturing the moment. These hobbies were all shared leaving a mark that’ll never fade.
He is also survived by brothers Steven (Debbie) Deatherage of Blue Springs, Mo, Alan Deatherage of Lee’s Summit, Mo, Dean Deatherage of Trenton, Mo, sister Jill Marie (Joe) Ferro of Independence, Mo Stepbrothers Dwayne (Nicole) Hartman of Kansas City, Mo and David (Cindy) Hartman of Waverly, Mo as well as extended friends and family member that will miss him dearly.
