The son of Irv and Aletha (Wittels) Sagan, Mike was born and raised in St. Louis, graduating from University City High School in 1969 after an outstanding wrestling career. He attended the University of Missouri, where played on the Tigers’ rugby team and earned his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate in 1972.
After admission to the Missouri Bar in 1972, Mike went to work in Kansas City in corporate law for more than a decade. He began his private practice in the late 1980s, specializing in multiple legal disciplines, including criminal defense and bankruptcy.
He was elected to the Prairie Village City Council from 1975-77.
Mike enjoyed playing golf and poker, and was an ardent fan of Mizzou and the Chiefs. He will be remembered for his masterful retention of trivia and outstanding sense of humor.
Survivors include his son Nathan, his grandchildren, Petula, Daphne and Escher, and his ex-wife Jean, all of Anchorage, Alaska, and his sister JoAnn Silverman and niece Julie Silverman, both of St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association or similar smoking cessation charity.
