He was born in Independence, MO to William Joseph Cubbage Jr and Irene Beemer on October 17, 1956.
Michael attended Alice High School in Alice, TX after moving to Texas with his family when he was 13. He graduated Alice High in 1975 after which he enlisted in the Navy. He was so excited to be following in his older brother Leroy’s footsteps to serve his country. Unfortunately, and to his dismay, Michael was honorably discharged from the service soon after completing boot camp due to a physical condition. After returning home, he soon met and married Doris Taylor. They were an instant family as Doris had a young son, James Taylor who Michael treated and thought of as his own. After a couple of years, their family was blessed with a new addition and Ian Michael Stine was born.
While Michael was a skilled professional flooring installer, he was also an avid and highly skilled guitar player; having put together several bands between the time he married until shortly before his stroke. He performed in a couple of musical contests over the years and won. In his off time, when he was not having fun and spending time with his family, including his siblings and his mom, he was practicing his guitar.
Mike and Doris lived in several locations during their time together as his skill in his chosen profession led them to a number of cities across Texas, Missouri, and their last residence in Lawrence, KS.
Mike was always the class clown and never shirked from an audience, either when playing guitar or in telling a funny story or sharing a joke. He never knew a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone and always did. He was mischievous in an endearing manner, and his humor and good nature along with his caring personality will be greatly missed by friends and especially family.
He recently was introduced to the newest member of the family; Lola-Mae Lynn Stine; his son Ian’s first child. He was so excited and proud of her and of being a grand-pa for the first time.
Michael is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Leon Richard and Hannah Pearl Beemer; his father; William Joseph Cubbage Jr; his wife of over 30 years, Doris Taylor-Stine; his brother, Larry Allen Cubbage; brother-in-law, Michael Lee Myler and several beloved Aunts, Uncles and cousins
He is survived by: his mother, Irene Lucille Fowler; his oldest son, William James Taylor of Manhattan, KS; his youngest son, Ian Michael Stine (Kourtney) of Lawrence, KS; his new born one and only grand-daughter, Lola-Mae Lynne Stine also of Lawrence, KS; his brother Leroy Wesley Stine (Charlene) of Wichita, KS; his sister, Cindy Myler of Independence, MO; his sister Rebecca Susan Woods (Charles) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Scott Leon Stine (Teri) of Independence, MO, Sherri Lynn Simmons (Aaron) of Independence; maternal aunts, Nancy Lee Daniels of Raytown and Donna Faye Harley of Independence along with a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
