

Michele Theresa Gould, 54, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th St., Leawood, KS 66209 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 12th, 11:00 a.m., at Church of the Nativity. Private Burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 1111 Main Street Suite 450, Kansas City, MO 64105, or to Church of the Nativity.
Michele was born in Sterling, Illinois to William and Fern (Hisler) Saunders. She graduated from Illinois State University and received a degree in Special Education, with a focus in behavior disorders. During her first year teaching in the Quad Cities, she met Kevin, who was working on his emergency medicine residency in Chicago at the time. On completion of Kevin’s training they were married on July 4, 1987, in Kevin’s home town of Davenport, Iowa. Michele and Kevin moved to Kansas City, where together they raised 4 children and were happily married for 27 years. She was a talented gardener, loved planning birthday parties for her kids, and was a world class bargain hunter. Michele was a devout Catholic and was an active parishioner at Nativity Parish School and Church. Michele was thoughtful, always smiling, cared for others, and throughout her illness she always had an “I’m fine” positive attitude. The family would like to thank Dr. Qamar Khan, Stephanie LaFaver, and the rest of the KU Breast Cancer Team for the wonderful care given to Michele.
Michele was preceded in death by her sister, Lori. She is survived by her parents; sister, Sheri; husband, Kevin; children, Molly, Katie, Joseph and Maggie.
