Minuard Burt was born on July 15, 1926 in Augusta, Arkansas to Walter Lee and Barbara Alice Burt. He was the youngest of 8 children. His parents and each of his siblings preceded him in death. The family relocated to Sedalia, Missouri where he remained until after he graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1946 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and persevered through life’s challenges with the aid of his mother’s many prayers.
Minuard married Ella Carter and to this union were born 3 wonderful children. He later married Lucille Baucom. To this union an additional 4 wonderful children were born. He began his career at the Municipal Correctional Institution (MCI) in January 1965. He started as a Correctional Officer, earned several promotions until he acquired the top position of Superintendent. He was an employee that managed his staff with integrity. His 26 years of exceptional work were celebrated with cheers and tears at his retirement party in January 1991.
Minuard and his family began to attend church at Barker Temple Church of God in Christ. One Sunday morning after church in December of 1981, he inquired of the Elders about salvation. Elder James Washington and the late Elder Clarence Cochran ministered and prayed with him as he knelt in the pulpit. The angels rejoiced as he with tear filled eyes, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior! He soon opened his home to a Tuesday night bible study and continued to grow stronger in the Lord.
God had already saved Minuard’s wife Lucille and God began to save Minuard’s children one by one! He became Sunday School Superintendent, a YPWW teacher, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Bible Band Teacher and Board of Trustees member. His smile, wit, strong character, sense of humor, loving heart, words of wisdom, and humility were one of an awesome kind.
He joyfully served the Lord, more than 3 decades. At the age of 85, his soul yet rejoiced but his body grew feeble. Just after midnight on Tuesday morning, God decided to lift His beloved child’s soul into his eternal reward of heaven. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith and now he enjoys the indescribable honor of being with the Lord!
