Naomi Marie Kelly was born August 28, 1947 to Dorothy Virginia (Taylor) and John Thomas Kelly. She was the eldest of seven children, with five brothers between her and her sister. She was preceded in death by both parents and her sister Geneva (Gigi) Lucille Wolcheski.
Naomi grew up on the “West Side” in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Manual High School in 1965. She attended Metro Jr. College and received nurse training at KU Medical Center. She worked in the nursing profession for over 40 years at Doctors Hospital, Menorah, Park Lane Medical Center, St. Mary’s, KCMC, Goppert Family Health, Westport Home Health, and private doctors’ offices. She retired from her job as nursing director at Brookside Adult Day Health Care in 2010. Among her many accolades, she received the Barbara Ramm Award for Exceptional Dedication to the Goppert Residency Program in 1996.
She met Rudolph Verdell Freemon at Metro Jr. College and the two were united in marriage. To this union, two daughters were born, Nichele Renee and Kelli Marie. Both daughters carry on her legacy with careers in health care.
Naomi enjoyed traveling and often visited friends in Long Island, St. Louis, and Chicago. Her girl-trip to the Bahamas was a treasured memory. She lived briefly in New York City and later in Dallas to be near her sister. She returned to Kansas City in 1999. Naomi took what she called the “best vacation of her life” in 2012 with her daughters and celebrated her 65th birthday on the island of Kuai, Hawaii.
While known for her beautiful demeanor and fashion sense, what most people loved about Naomi was her sense of humor and caring personality. She had a bright smile and a quiet presence that could light up a room.
Naomi was an active member of Empowerment of Faith International Ministries. She was an ordained Deaconess and was the leader of the Deacon Ministry. Her faith and service to the church began at a very early age, and her devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ was an example to her family and many, many friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Nichele (Brian) Bratton and Kelli (Steven) Parker; grandchildren Michele Freemon, Karla (John) Whitish, Jared Freemon, Lauren Freemon Besch and Levi Parker; great grandchildren, Janae Whitish and Michael Amissah; brothers John (Nancy) Kelly, Steve Kelly, William (Christine) Kelly, Laurence (Carrie) Kelly and James (Juliet) Kelly; niece Erica Kelly, nephews Jared Kelly, Everett Kelly, Anthony Kelly and Phillip Kelly; a host of great nieces and nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends; her brothers and sisters in Christ at Empowerment of Faith International Ministries, Grace Christian Fellowship, and the 7000 More Covenant Fellowship.
Services will be Saturday, October 21, at 3pm at New Life In Christ Int. Ministries, 12401 Byars Rd, Grandview MO 64030. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Empowerment of Faith International Ministries, 8831 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64131.
