

Nicholas (Nick) J. Hernandez Jr., beloved Brother, Uncle, and Godfather, went to heaven on January 11, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on August 6, 1950, Nick lived a life defined by faith, loyalty, and love.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Rita Urbina Hernandez. For over thirty years, they shared a bond of deep affection and adventure, and are now together in heaven. He was also preceded by his Parents, Nicholas and Angie Hernandez, In-laws, Simon & Catalina Urbina, and his younger Brother, Martin Hernandez.
A proud graduate of Westport High School, Nick honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard before pursuing further education at Penn Valley Community College. He carried a deep respect for his parents throughout his life, exemplifying the values of family and loyalty.
Nick was a man of many passions. An avid sports enthusiast, he attended the Olympics and cheered on his local teams, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, with unwavering dedication. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted Catholic who truly embodied the spirit of Christmas and the profound responsibility of being a Godparent.
Nick leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his siblings: Jesse and Linda Montoya, Ricardo and Patricia Hernandez, Anna and Louie Pacheco (passed), Robert and Shirley Hernandez, Veronica and Jack Burks, and Gloria and Mark Valdivia. He cared greatly for his dog, Lollipop, and held a special place in his heart for his many Godchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews, who were blessed by his guidance and support.
Though he possessed remarkable strength and resilience, Nick was also a man of gentle kindness and compassion. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be forever loved and missed.
Services will be on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Guardian Angels Church, 1310 Westport Rd. Kansas City, MO 64111. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the Mass in Mount Washington Forever Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave. Independence, MO 64053.
