

He was married on June 20, 1981 to Shirley J. Grider for 42 years. They met at City of Kansas City, MO in 1979 in the Transportation department. He did numerous street closures, signs & pavement markings, also published traffic ordinances. He left City of Kansas City, MO to take a position in the City of Springfield transportation/traffic department. He did numerous traffic counts, transported sign boards for traffic and street closures. He retired from the City of Springfield in 2008 and moved to Tonganoxie, KS taking a job at Speedway Auto Group in 2010, retiring in 2018. While in Tonganoxie, KS he enjoyed helping with the family dairy goats, not only chores, milking, breeding, building numerous enclosures, helped getting goats ready for shows/county fair, and traveling to pick up goats from out of town. He also spent time helping his grandson in his boy scouts. Having the honor of presenting him his Arrow of Light, and Eagle Scout.
He went to Southwest High School, graduating in 1970, then went to CMSU. As a child he was apart of Cub Scouts, moving on to Boy Scouts to Eagle Scout as part of the Heart of America Council. Attended H.Roe Bartle Scout Reservation on staff for may years into adulthood. Became apart the Tribe of Mic-O-Say as Little Lingering Thundercloud progressing to Shaman. While in Springfield, MO he was apart Ozark Trails Council at Camp Arrowhead and apart of the shadow team for the start up of the Tribe of Lone Bear reaching the Keeper of the Wumpum. He enjoyed scouting and leading other scouts over 30 years. He enjoyed time with family and if you needed help he was always right there.
He was preceded in death by Dorothy A. Johnson (Mother), Richard A. Johnson (Step-Father), Willard L. Scott (Father), Michael A. Scott (Brother), Vera D. Grider (Mother-In-Law), Ben E Grider (Father-In-Law), Benny E. Grider (Brother-In-Law), also numerous Grandfathers, Grandmothers, Aunts and Uncles.
Survivors include wife of 42 years Shirley J. Scott, Brother JR Scott (Bettye), Daughter Lynda J. Churchill (Keith) Grandchildren Hunter T. Lohr, Taylar A. Lawson (Jake), and Brody A. Churchill. Great Grandchildren Madelyn Rose Bedell, Henry Thomas Lohr, and Emma Grace Lawson. His beloved dog Yogi, and Granddog Bobo. Along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, September 20 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO.
A funeral service will take place at 2 PM on Thursday, September 21, also at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
