Charlie was my first cousin.  I'm nine years older.  When I was in high school, I used to babysit for him occasionally.  At that time he and his parents were living on Mission Drive on the Kansas side, and I lived with my family on 63rd Street on the Missouri side.  The thing I most remember about Charles (that's what he was called then) when he was 6 or 7, was how he wanted to play chess with me when I was at his house.  I've never known how to play, but he would explain the rules to me and then proceed to win.  He was a precocious child.  It's difficult for me to accept that he's already gone, and especially sad because he died on his father's birthday.  He meant a lot to me.  I certainly miss him.
 

Charlie and I reconnected these past two years, having coffee and sharing art.  I enjoyed his present company and the past we shared. Bummer.

Charlie was a rare bird who flew his migration in and out of this world to grace us with his art and wit.
