

Ramon S. “Hunchy” Garcia, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri died on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Burial of the urn will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery after the Mass. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the church.
Hunch was born on November 22, 1922 to Trinidad and Glafida (Leiva) Garcia in Argentine, Kansas. He attended Clara Barton Grade School and graduated from Argentine High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII. When he returned from the war, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad as a car inspector for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a waiter, maitre ‘d and wine steward at some of the finest restaurants including Putsch’s 210, The Alameda, the Kansas City Club and the Carriage Club, when he retired in 1992. He was a member and usher of Guardian Angels Church for 49 years, and a cook for the Senior Saints for 21 years. His apple pies, “Ooooh, soo good.” He was also a member of both the American Legion, Post 213 and the VFW, Post 7026.
In addition to his parents, Hunchy was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Daniel Garcia. At the death of his brother John, he became the father figure to his children. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary of the home; two daughters, Anna Ascencio and husband Gilbert and Abigail Salazar and husband Art; and John’s children, John Garcia and wife Pam, Joseph Garcia and wife Yvonne, Jess Garcia and companion Tom, Antoinette Hernandez and husband Larry and Lupe Rennau and husband Robert; brother Jesus Garcia, sister Lupe Fernandez Garcia and sister-in-law Valdie Garcia, and three grandchildren, Jessica Collins and husband Josh, Gilbert Ascencio, Jr. and Art Salazar, Jr, and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Ramon lived by five virtues, Honesty, consideration of others, trust, loyalty, and be true to yourself. The family wants to thank all of the health care workers who cared for him the last three months.
