Richard was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Esther Bayless. He is survived by his loving wife Vicky, 3 children; Stacy, Marsha and Joshua. He has 5 grandchildren; Brittney, Veta, Lilliana, Emma and Jessica and 3 great-grandchildren; Kellen, Xavier and Atlas. Also his older brother Ron Bayless and baby sister Judith Clark. The 3 siblings are all members of Connection Point Church in Raytown and go to the same Sunday school class.
Richard was born and raised in Kansas City. He graduated from Westport High School in 1957. He then served his country by joining the Air Force. While in the Air Force he was recruited for special training with radar technology. After that he worked for Boeing, wiring and sighting nuclear missiles all over the country during the Cold War.
He finally returned to Kansas City and earned his Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license. Richard's sister (my Aunt Judith) introduced Vicky to her brother. This turned out to be the love of his life, my mother Vicky. They married December 2, 1966. They moved to Raytown and joined Spring Valley Baptist Church. Two years later, they welcomed me (Stacy) into their family. My dad was now working for the KCT railroad in communications. Later KCT merged with the BNSF railroad and that’s where he eventually retired after 34 years of service.
Richard was an Eagle Scout and helped me achieve the same. He was also very active with Josh in Boy Scouts. He helped us both achieve the rank of Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at Boy Scout camp. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and would even grow his beard out for the Christmas pageant play (claiming he was the star). He loved spending much of his days with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going on cruises with my mom. We would take a yearly fishing trip where he and I didn’t care if we caught a fish, just enjoyed the time on my boat.
My dad was an amazing man, he introduced me to my Savior Jesus Christ and I am forever grateful that I was able to call him my dad. I am looking forward to seeing him again.
His loving son, Stacy
