

Richard C. (Rick) Hammar of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at his home on Thursday, January 12 after a sudden heart attack. Rick was born on July 12, 1962 to Phil and Sharon (Kelley) Hammar in Kansas City, MO. He attended schools in Independence, MO, Mattoon and Crystal Lake, IL and graduated from Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, IA with a degree in Music Education. He taught Instrumental Music in Nebraska and Illinois for a few years. He was presently employed by Opinions, Ltd. of Ohio and worked from his home as a Marketing Operations Manager. Ricks interests included many kinds of music, especially the New Age music of Mannheim Steamroller, but most of all Drum Corps International. He followed the scoring of summer competitions and attended finals many times. He used his technical computer skills in his job and also did computer repair work. Rick is survived by his parents, Phil and Sharon Hammar of Kearney, NE; 1 sister, Kelly and her spouse Kirk Stulen of Houston, Texas, nephew Kyle and niece Kaitlyn; 1 uncle, Larry Kelley, 1 aunt, Edith Gatzmeyer and her spouse Jean; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents: Carl and Rachel Hammar and Paul and Mary Kelley.
