

Richard A. Montgomery, 20, of Blue Springs, Missouri, died on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday January 12 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3106 Flora, Kansas City, Missouri. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be held on January 11 from 5 to 7 p.m with Rosary at 7 p.m. at McGilley Memorial Chapel, 20 West Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Church, The Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King, Kansas City Hospice or Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Mr. Montgomery was born on December 13, 1983 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ronald and Cynthia Montgomery. His mother preceded him in death in 1988. He was a lifelong area resident and a student at Blue River Community College and worked at the Blue Springs Price Chopper until his illness. He was very active in his church and enjoyed singing in the choir, sketching religious pictures, and organizing events for the church youth group. Richard enjoyed sports and particularly playing football with his brothers and friends. His survivors include his father, Ronald, and his adoptive mother, Alice, of the home; his brothers, Ben, of Blue Springs, Andre, and Paul and his sisters, Theresa, Catherine, Lauren, and Anna of the home. His survivors also include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all across the country as well as innumerable friends and acquaintances in the U.S. and Europe who have long prayed for him. His family is grateful for the doctors and nurses of Children’s Mercy Hospital and Kansas City Hospice who cared for him during his illness. All who knew him will remember Richard as a happy, generous young man who was an inspiration to all who witnessed the grace with which he bore the cross of his illness. He will be greatly missed.
