Rick S. Coates

Rick S. Coates of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Medical Center. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving daddy, brother, uncle, and friend. Rick was born on January 29, 1950 in Carthage, Missouri to Verna and Velda (Henry) Coates. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School and attended Missouri Southern State College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He worked for the I.R.S. Rick was an outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents: Vernie and Velda Coates and his faithful companion Snowflake. Survivors include his wife of 19 years Katherine Bernal Coates and daughter, Laura Coates, both of the home. He will be sadly missed by his brothers: Gary Coates and his wife Trisha of Carthage, Missouri and Don Coates of Chanute, Kansas, and special cousins Ed and Penny Coates of Carthage, Missouri. Left behind to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, uncle, and cousins. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel 20 West Linwood Blvd. Kansas City, Missouri. Interment in Forest Hill / Calvary Cemetery 6901 Troost Ave. Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the funeral home. The visitation will conclude with a Rosary starting at 7:30 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to assist with Laura’s educational fund.
