Bob had a diverse career always in service to others. After graduating from Central High School in 1956, he joined the Marine Corp and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. After working for the Kansas City Police Department, he earned a bachelor’s degree in education from UMKC and taught life sciences at Raytown South High School. Bob was a small business owner in Peculiar for a short time before becoming a deputy for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. After retiring from the sheriff’s department in 2001, he worked part-time for the Crabtree Bus Company as a driver and monitor for special needs children.
Bob and Carol were married in 1964 in Kansas City, MO where they lived before building their home in Peculiar, MO. They, along with their son, Bryan, enjoyed many happy times in that home. Eventually, the family expanded to include Bryan’s wife, Sarah, and their children, Josh and Anna.
Bob was an outdoorsman and handy man who had a talent for fixing just about anything. He had a passion for fishing and building furniture for family and friends. Bob was known for his practical jokes, and his unique ability to make people laugh. Friends of Bob remember him best for: cookies at the bank, M&M’s at the doctor’s office, his middle-of-the-night visits to the truck stop for coffee and the paper, sending text messages like a teenager, his love of dogs, never leaving the house without a hat, and bringing out the best in others.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol, as well as a son, Bryan, and his wife, Sarah. He cherished his two grandchildren, Josh and Anna.
Bob’s life will be celebrated from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A private family service will be held at an undetermined date. Remembrance donations can be made to the DAV: http://www.dav.org/.
