

Robert “Bob” P. Long Jr. was born August 15, 1926 in Kansas City Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010. He was 83. He was a long time resident of Raytown, Missouri. After he retired he lived in Deepwater, Missouri. and moved to Port Isabel, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Dorothy L. Long and his son, Robert P. Long, III. He was a Navy war veteran that served in two wars, World War II on the battleship Mississippi and on a destroyer in the Korean War with several medals of honor. The Medals include: American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific, World War II, Japan Occupation Service, National Defense, Korean Service, World War II from the state of Missouri, The Liberty, and the Philippine Independence to name a few. He still kept in touch with several of his shipmates. He was a 50 year member of the IBEW Local Union 124, owned his own Electrical Contracting Company and was one of the top electrical control techs in his day. He was also an active member of the Lowry City, Missouri Masonic Lodge #403 and Point Isabel Lodge #33 Port Isabel Texas. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. Bob enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycle riding and had the good fortune to travel after his retirement in 1989. He donated time and money to several charities in Port Isabel and enjoyed helping the children. Bob never knew a stranger and touched so many lives, he will be missed by all. He is survived by his children, Brice Lee Long, Port Isabel, Texas; Gerald and Ruth Long, Raytown, Missouri; Sheri Ann Long, Grand Island, Nebraska; his sister Donna Lee Mabry, Indialantic, Florida; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 8787 Old Santa Fe Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64138.
