

Roy “Rags” Garcia, 88, of Independence, Missouri, formerly of northeast Kansas City, died on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Centerpoint Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Cesar Chavez Avenida, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m.on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to either Sacred Heart\Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th St. Merriam, KS 66203.
Roy was born on June 28, 1923 in Milan, Kansas to Jose C. and Teresa (Orozco) Garcia. He served in the Navy during World War II as a boatswain mate, 3rd class. Roy worked at Swift and Company before going to work with Allied Bendix for 28 years as a machinist. He was a member of American Legion Post 609. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Jessie Gamino Garcia, in October 2010; son, Raymond; his parents; and brother, Joe Garcia. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa J. (Robert) Paredes, Independence, MO; son, Larry Garcia and companion Christina Reyes of Kansas City North; brother, Jesse Garcia, Kansas City, MO; sisters-in-law, Tina Segura and Julia Figueroa, both of Kansas City, KS. Roy had eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; his dog of 15 years, Shawnee, as well as his adopted family, the Jaramillos.
