Russell Reed Hemphill, Jr., 52, Independence, MO, passed away August 22, 2011 at home. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. Russell was born July 17, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Russell Reed, Sr. and Eloise May (Miller) Hemphill. He was president of his Junior class at Westport High School, graduating his junior year. He served in the U.S. Navy after high school. Russell was very successful at business and anything he set his mind to do. He was preceded in death by his father Russell Reed Hemphill, Sr. and his wife Lori Hemphill in January of 2011. He is survived by his mother Eloise Hemphill; son Joey Hemphill and daughter-in-law Shari; daughter Nicki Hemphill and son-in-law Shannon Bass; grandchildren Serenity, Austin and Chloe; sister Shirley Thompson; nephew Chris Bishop; Michelle Shockey; extended family and friends.
