

Sandra J. Cox, 76, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away December 8, 2013. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, 10507 Holmes Road. Private burial of the ashes in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Sandra was born on January 8, 1937 in Flint, Michigan, daughter of Dwight and Bernice (Balsley) Rhonemus. Sandra graduated from Paseo High School in 1955. She married James Gordon Cox on May 18, 1957. Sandra started working while a Junior in High School at Southwestern Bell and later AT&T, retiring in 1989. She started a second career on February 16, 1989 working at CWA (Communications Workers of America) in the Topeka, Kansas office. On October 1, 1989 she moved to the Kansas City office and then moved to the Austin, Texas office on April 3, 2000 becoming the Assistant to the Vice President and then retired on February 12, 2002. Sandra was very proud of joining the CWA Local Union 6326 on February 21, 1959 and serving as their Union President for over 30 years. She loved being at the lake, going on vacations, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cox, son, Michael Cox, and half-brother Duke. Sandra is survived by her daughter, Leslie Hart of Kansas City, Missouri (Denny); sister, Karen Hardwick (Karl) of Denver, Colorado; nieces and nephew, Jamie, Mark, and Janice; grandchildren, Angela Allen, Sean (Catherine) Cowley, Kevin Hart, Jeffrey Hart, Matthew Hart and Joseph Hart; and great grandchildren, Ariana Hart, Morgan Allen, George Allen, Gabriel Allen, Gavin Allen, Grace Allen, Kameron Cowley and Mikylah Cowley.
