Sandy was born March 5, 1941, in Kansas City, MO. She grew up in this area with her older sister, Roberta and stepbrother, Ret. She graduated from Raytown High School in 1959 and later attended CMSU in Warrensburg.
Sandy was married to Fred Scott (now deceased), and they followed his service in the US Army to Germany, where their only child, Susan Kay, was born. She later was married many years to Bill Jones (now deceased), and most recently was married to Larry Allen, who survives Sandy.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Dickey, and Iris (Croft) Dougherty; her stepfather, Walt Dougherty; and her sister, Roberta Hunsperger.
Sandy served as a third-generation owner of Croft Trailer Supply, a business which remains family owned and operated to this day. Along with working at Croft, Sandy was very active in her community. She served various offices in Zonta International, a professional business women’s organization, and was very involved in the activities of Ararat Shrine Temple with her husband, step-father, and other family members. She had a passion for dancing since childhood and in recent years was a member of the Hi-Steppers, a group of talented ladies who volunteered their time dancing to entertain the Shrine family and many others beyond.
Sandy leaves her husband, Larry Allen; daughter, Susan McGinn; granddaughter, Samantha McGinn; Bill’s children, Suzanne Joiner (Chris), Nikki Rhynerson, Ron Jones (Sherry), and Dan Jones; Larry’s son, Klint Allen; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Sandy served many roles in life and filled them well. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, entrepreneur, Shrine lady, and friend. She generously opened her heart, home (and pool!) to friends and family, entertaining with the class and charm that was signature Sandy. Her beauty inside and out blessed us all.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Wednesday, May 29, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64133. A service celebrating Sandy’s life will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 30, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial service will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
The family suggested memorials to the Ararat Shrine Cornerstone Fund.
