Sharon was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Phillip and Lillian (Hunter) Ohl on September 3, 1939. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1957 and attended the Iowa State Teachers College. Sharon was employed at Rath in Waterloo, Iowa as a secretary. She was married in 1963, in the Base Chapel at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia to 2nd Lt. Thomas W. Hemsath, USMC. She was a devoted Marine Officer wife and mother, moving 14 times with her family – creating a wonderful loving home at each new duty station. She was a bookkeeper at Coronation of Our Lady Parish in Grandview, Missouri for many years. Sharon enjoyed being an active parishioner at all of her parish homes.
Sharon loved her family, turtleneck sweaters, butter, Dateline, Iowa sweet corn, shells/shelling, Pottery Barn, decorative pillows, family gatherings and family vacations. She was known for her signature bob hair style, lipstick for all occasions, embroidered hankies, holiday decorating, being an excellent, active listener, and giving the best hugs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Larry and Dale Ohl.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tom Hemsath, her children, Melissa (Hemsath) Johnston, Douglas Hemsath (Tracy), Angela Hemsath, two grandchildren, Jacob Johnston (Samantha), Emily Hemsath and younger brother Joseph Ohl (Jan).
