Sharon Ann Seigler, 65, of Independence, MO passed away on Friday, October 28th surrounded by the family she so dearly loved. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 3rd from 6-8pm with rosary at 7:30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial at the church on Fri. 10am with entombment following in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Sharon Ann was born in Kansas City, MO to Walter & Eleanor Seigler on June 23, 1946 and was the oldest of 7 children. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School in Raytown, MO, Bishop Hogan High School in KCMO & earned a Teaching Degree from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, KS. She taught for a total of 24 yrs in the following schools: St. Ann’s School in the Archdiocese of KCKS, St. Bernadette’s School, St. John Francis Regis School, St. Mary’s High School & Holy Cross School; all in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1991 that forced her retirement; Sharon Ann made a miraculous recovery and showed her gratitude to God by volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes School & Parish in Raytown, as well as at REAP (Raytown Emergency Assistance Program). In addition, she endured a 9 month battle with cancer which went into remission for 6 years, only to return in 2009. Throughout her entire life she was always quick to laugh at any joke or wisecrack, even at her own expense. She would convulse in laughter until someone had to say “breathe, Sharon Ann, breathe!” Always a giving person, she loved having her family around & really got a kick out of telling everyone she would pay for dinner; even when she was stone broke. While fighting the disease that finally took her from us, she retained her wonderful sense of humor and her desire to be of help to others. She was a lifelong Kansas City A’s, Royals and Chiefs fan. For her, the players and announcers were more than entertainers – they were family. Sharon Ann is survived by her 5 sisters, Loretta (Mike) Van Bibber of the home, Cathy (Dick) Cunneen of KCMO, Teresa (Bob) Zaner of Indep., Peggy Mynatt of Raytown, Mary Alice (Dean) Chester of KCMO; one brother, Walt (Kristi) Seigler of Indep.; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Her continuous smile and laughter are gifts that will keep her alive in our hearts forever. Memorial contributions may be made in Sharon Ann’s name to REAP (9300 E. 75th St. Raytown, MO 64138).
