

Shirley Rae Swait, 87, of Raymore, Missouri, formerly of Independence, Missouri, passed away on August 30, 2025. She was born July 13, 1938, and was lovingly adopted as an infant by the late John “Bill” Rackers and Effa Rackers.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Earnie Swait, who passed on December 31, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Keith Donahoe and Mark Donahoe, as well as many cherished pets who brought her joy throughout her life.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen Donahoe and Michael Donahoe; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Davis; her grandchildren, Amanda Donahoe, Katie (Gary) Cochran, Sarah Donahoe, Alicia Donahoe, Britney (Joshua) Bell, and Jessica (Shaun Wicklin) Donahoe; and ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her treasured cat, Eleanor, who was her faithful companion this past year.
After the passing of her husband, Shirley lived with her oldest son who lovingly cared for her. Surrounded by family, she enjoyed a happy and fulfilling season of life.
Shirley lived a full and vibrant life. She was deeply passionate about gardening and served as past president of the African Violet Society of Greater Kansas City. She also loved to travel, spend time with her friends and family, cook delicious meals, and work on her many crafts. Through these joys she built countless treasured memories and lasting friendships.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to her family, her love for animals, and her green thumb that brought beauty into the lives of others. Above all, Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that her family and friends will hold close forever.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer’s Floral Hills, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, Missouri, on September 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM.
