Preceding her in death were her former husband, Dr. Charles Gilkey Jr.; and her parents, Catherine and John Walker. Shirley attended Roesland Grade School, Sunset Hill School, Shawnee Mission High School, KU, and UMKC.
Shirley worked for many years in the Vice Chancellor's Office at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. The University of Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary, the Saint Luke's Medical Center Auxiliary serving as Auxiliary Board Member, and other organizations.
Dear to her heart through the years were her bridge, tripoli, and luncheon groups. She was a member and former President of the Knickerbocker Investment Club, a former member and President of the Round Robin Study Club, and the Loch Lloyd Country Club. She felt very fortunate to have seen much of the USA, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.
She leaves behind cousins, many friends, and Misty, her little white poodle.
A graveside service will occur at 11 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
