Today is a very sad day for me as I just learned of Sister's passing. I had been waiting for a response back from my last note and card. Sister Colette Marie and I go back ..way back to St. John and St. James in the St. Louis area in second grade. She was my idol then as she has been all my life. We found each other again several years ago after all this time and it was wonderful. Sister was a great teacher. I still remember preparing for First Confession and Holy Communion and that goes back to the 1946-1947 school year. What I learned from Sister Colette at that young age has stayed with me all these years. As a matter of fact I referred to that in my last card to her. I only hope she was able to read it and see how much she meant to me and what a great inspiration she was to me. She was very generous and shared some of her art with me. I will always cherish them. To her friends and family, please accept my deepest sympathy. Sister will always be remembered in  my prayers.

What can I say about my friend of forty-eight years, albeit a woman whom I considered my sister?  You provided me so many examples, on a daily basis, of what it means to serve.  You have always been there for your family, your community, your friends, your commimtment to the dear neighbor, your dedication to your calling as an artist.  I know of no one who gave every minute of every day to others, in your own quiet way.  It was never about you.  It was always trying to find a way to help others, no matter how small the issue, and with no expectatation of being recognized for your efforts.  You did not act out of a personal agenda; rather, you acted in the best interests of the right thing to do...not always popular, and you did suffer for that.  You were God's gift to me, and I hope to show my gratitude for this magnificent gift for the rest of my life.  You are the other half of my soul.  I love you and I miss you so much.

After making the long journey back home from Kansas City, I started reading again the family history books that Sr. Colette, Marilyn Hurley, my father, Joe, and Mary Martin had written in 2005 and 2006. I laughed and cried all evening while reading the wonderful stories about our family. It was yet another loving gift that Sr. Colette had left for us..."And He Brought Her Lilacs"...and "Footsteps"

Sister Colette was my great aunt and her paintings are naturally beautiful displaying in our home. My middle name is Colette in honor of her. My family and I will have her in our hearts forever.

I was so sorry to hear about Sister Collette. She was one of my favorite people. She was so loving, kind, forgiving, talented and knowledgable. I know she had a wonderful and rewarding life but I will miss her dearly.

This is particularly sad because I believe Sr.  Colette was the last of the wonderful group of CSJs who taught me at Redemptorist.  John Cuneen said it all.

How we will miss our Dear Aunt.  She was always so understanding and knowledgeable with such a keen insight of all of her Brother's 8 children and spouses, and was a great influence on all of us.  She possessed many talents, and her ability to provide support, consoling when needed was a tremendous benefit to All.  We will greatly miss our dear Aunt and her sweet kindness and love and the fun we had with Sister Colette.

One of the sweetest people to ever teach at Redemptorist. She will be missed.

Sister Colette was a beloved member of her brother Joe's family.  We have many fond memories of her and Mary Martin.  She will be missed.
