Steve James, age 71, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 19, 2016, after battling heart and lung disease. Visitation at 1PM with funeral at 2PM on Monday, July 25, at Floral Hills. Steve was born in Santa Barbara, California, and as a baby moved with his parents, Don and Jane James to Falls City, Nebraska, where he spent his entire childhood. After graduating from high school, he attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. After college, he worked for Retail Credit Company in Kansas City, Missouri. He loved the thrill of the chase in investigative work and could tell many stories of his adventures. Later, he turned his love of anything automotive into a career in the tire supply business, where he had many loyal sales customers before he retired in 2006. Steve was a kind and sensitive soul who loved animals and people, especially his wife, Diane, his family, and his many, many friends. Nothing gave him more joy than spending an evening out with good friends. Growing up in Falls City, Nebraska, he was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan all his life. Marrying an avid Missouri fan led to much light-hearted bantering over their 43 years of marriage. Steve is survived by his wife of 43 years Diane James, his brother Mark James (Karen) of Granbury, TX, and 2 nephews Mark James Jr. (Tara) and Matt James both of TX. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64137; www.waysidewaifs.org.
