

Susan Young Palkowetz passed away on July 18, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on December 18, 1946 in Houston, Texas. She grew up in nearby Baytown, Texas where her father was an engineer at the Baytown Refinery. She was the second oldest of 7 children. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965 and shortly after the family relocated to Madison, New Jersey.
In New Jersey, she met her future husband of nearly 55 years, Rudy Palkowetz, at a Newman Society dance. They were married in December 1969 and soon after she graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with a degree in Economics. She and Rudy moved to Texas in 1974, settling in The Woodlands. After nearly 20 years with AT&T and Southwestern Bell, Susan left her career to become a full time mother to their daughter, Becky.
Throughout her retirement years, she was an active volunteer at her daughter’s schools, with Birthright, and with the Society of St Vincent de Paul. In 2021, she and Rudy moved to the Kansas City area to be closer to family. She passed away July 18, 2024. Her kindness and generous smile will be missed.
Susan is survived by her husband, Rudy; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Robert Morrison; four grandchildren; her brothers, John Young and Stephen Young; and sisters, Sarah Burns and Julie Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anne Young; brother, William Young; and sister, Deborah Graves.
Visitation and Rosary will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25 followed by a Requiem Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 3106 Flora Ave., Kansas City, MO 64109. Interment in Resurrection North Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
