Suzanne Dennis Chastain

Suzanne Dennis Chastain, age 72, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 4th, 2017. She was born in Hartville, Missouri on January 13th, 1945 to John Burke Dennis and Lois Marie Cottengim Dennis.

Suzanne graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1963 after also attending Southwest High School in Kansas City and Parkview High School in Springfield due to her family's moves. She attended college one year in Springfield where she met her future husband, Larry K. Chastain. They married on January 23rd, 1965. Through the years Suzanne delighted in caring for her family, her home, and the two-year-olds she taught at her church's Mother's Day Out. She enjoyed all music, from the Bee Gee's to KLove. Her love of water led she and Larry to spend extended time at homes in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Lake of the Ozarks. Dementia took much of her awareness in her final years, but she remained content and happy still sharing compassion and joy with all those around her.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sharon, and her niece Katy. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry K. Chastain; daughter, Amy (David) Anderson; son, Jay (Melissa) Chastain; grandchildren Megan, Sophie, and Camille Anderson; Emily and Haley Chastain; sister-in-law Peggy Chastain; nieces Elizabeth (Jeff) Knipp, Heather (Brandon) Gunn; nephews Jeff (Lori) Bogart, Lance (Lana) Wallace, as well as other dear family and friends.

A visitation will be Monday, December 11th at 1:00pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. A private interment will be held later.

The family extends a special thank you to so many dedicated workers at the Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care, Suzanne's home for the past four years.
