Theresa K. Wolkey, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away March 13, 2020 at St. Mary’s Manor Health Center in Lansdale, PA. Her Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am, Saturday, June 27 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Drive, Gladstone, MO 64118. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Saturday, June 27 at St. Charles Borromeo Church followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Activities Department at St. Mary’s Manor, 701 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA 19446.
Theresa graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1958 and then attended 1 semester of college at CMSU in Warrensburg, MO. After that, she immediately went to work at Commerce Bank of Kansas City in their lock box department as a Quality Control Clerk where she retired after 35 years in January of 1995. During that time, she also worked several part-time jobs in the restaurant industry, Ponderosa and Golden Corral, in order to support and educate her son, Ronald.
After retirement, she continued to work as a pre-school teacher for Jay’s Learning and Spectrum Day Care Centers. Her work as a young child care provider was something she truly enjoyed and inspired many young minds.
In 2015, she moved to Cross Keys Retirement Community in Argentine, Kansas. During her time there, she enjoyed all the friendships she made.
In October, 2019, after living in Kansas City, MO for 79 years, she moved to St. Mary’s to be closer to her family. There, she had touched so many people with her great smile and personality along with her stories of how proud she was of her family. She so enjoyed playing bingo every day and partaking in all the yummy refreshments.
Theresa was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for more than 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia and Henry Gabel, her brother, Thomas J. Gabel, and her husband of 40 years, Robert J. Wolkey. She is survived by her son, Ronald Eugene Wolkey (Colleen) and 2 grandsons, Brandon Michael Wolkey and Jose Dario Hernandez (J.J.). Theresa was beloved and will be missed by her brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews and extended family.
