Tom grew up in Alton, Illinois where he developed a love for golf as a young caddy at the local golf course and honed his exceptional skills as a saxophone player in a band.
Tom graduated from University of Missouri in 1970 and worked on his master’s degree in city planning at Southern Illinois University. He worked for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, where he was instrumental in the development of the Katy Trail.
Tom married Marby Heidenreich in 1990 and the two enjoyed traveling together to Alabama and Florida for golf and sunshine. Tom enjoyed music and reading and loved playing golf his entire life.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Lee Lange.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marby; his sister, Janice Laycob; step-daughters, Shelly Halphin and Kristen (Greg) Trainor; and their children, Katie, Robert, Brian and Abby Halphin, and Jack and Madelyn Trainor, who lovingly referred to Tom as “Grampy.”
The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice and Village Shalom for their support and the care and compassion they showed Tom in his final days.
