Ulrich “Rick” Joseph Waldenmeyer Jr., age 78, born in Green Bay, WI passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022. A graduate of Marquette University with a BS in Business in the class of 1971, Rick played trumpet and trombone in the Marquette University Band. He married his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Pleskatschek, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He began his long and varied sales/management career at DuBarry Cosmetics shortly after graduation with career highlights including stints in the toy, sheet music, and lab equipment industries. He returned to his alma mater Marquette University as the Director of Development, and remained a proud Warrior for his entire life. A role in Management for Scientific Plastics brought him to Kansas City, closer to his son and namesake Ulrich “Jay” Waldenmeyer IV and five of his six grandchildren.
Rick was particularly proud of his role as President of the St. William’s Parish School Board in Waukesha, WI, a community where he chose to raise his family. His roots in Wisconsin go even deeper as he was also a proud shareholder of his hometown Green Bay Packers.
Rick was President of the Leawood Lion’s Club and a strong believer in their philanthropic mission.
He had a particularly adventurous palette, including homage to his German heritage regularly indulging in Brats as well as Sülze (also known as Head Cheese). And he was also known to indulge on the occasional Jack Daniels on the rocks.
He loved to travel, with stops as far-flung as Hong Kong, but retained that New York City was one of his favorite destinations.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Ulrich Sr. and Loretta. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Waldenmeyer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, and his sons Ulrich IV of Leawood, KS and Matthew of Milwaukee, WI. He is also survived by six grandchildren (Ulrich V, Jake, Hailey, Hank, Howie, and John) and two great grandchildren (Ulrich VI and Andy) with two more great grandchildren on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made out to either Church of Nativity Parish School, 3800 W. 119th St., Leawood, KS 66209 or The Leawood Foundation at 4800 Town Center Drive, Leawood, KS 66211.
