Elaine Courtney-Cofield, 88, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away on February 9, 2015, at St. Luke’s Hospice House. There will be a funeral mass in her honor at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1401 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, Mo.
Elaine was born Valencia Elaine Tosti to Savena Marie and Fred Joseph Tosti in Kansas City. She married Ray Courtney in 1949 and they had three sons, Kenneth, Glenn (Kim), and Keith. Ray died in 1980 and, in 2000, Elaine married Gene Cofield who died in 2007.
Elaine was a devoted caregiver to her mother and both husbands through extended illnesses. For years she was a Eucharistic lay minister for St. Patrick church. Elaine was an excellent dancer who competed in ballroom dancing. She worked outside the home, managing a dress shop for many years. She loved people and had countless friends with whom she stayed in contact over the years. Late in life she became the “welcome lady” at her retirement community.
Elaine is survived by her three sons, her sisters Marilyn (Louis) Spry and Carolyn (Delbert) Pfannenstiel, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St Patrick School Scholarship fund c/o St. Patrick Church.
