Vicki was born August 19, 1944, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, to Robert Louis and Thelma Mae (Dotson) Maupin. She graduated from Newkirk High School in 1962. She attended Oklahoma State University for two years and in 1965 began her secretarial career in Oklahoma City at the state capitol building.
She was a dedicated and successful executive secretary, known for her exceptional skills, professionalism, and warm personality. Her career spanned over four decades, during which she made significant contributions to every organization she was part of, including the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education as the secretary to the Chancellor, Dr. E.T. Dunlap, and United Telecom/Sprint in Overland Park, Kansas, and Dallas, Texas, until her retirement in the early 2000’s. She was awarded the Regents’ Employee Recognition Award in 1980, a testament to her outstanding dedication and performance.
Beyond her professional achievements, she was an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family. Vicki married Robert Lee “Bob” Colvin in 1968 in Oklahoma City, and they enjoyed 38 wonderful years together before his passing in 2003. Vicki loved being “Nana” to her beloved grandchildren, Kieran, Reese, and Kinleigh. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and was their biggest fan, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She loved attending their various activities, sporting events, and performances.
After her husband’s death, she lived for 20 years in McKinney, Texas, close to her kids and grandkids and active in her community. She enjoyed serving at the Samaritan Inn with her Solid Rock bible fellowship group from First McKinney Church, as well as participating in the Newcomer’s Club. Among her favorite activities was staying in touch with her Ya-Ya's, lifetime friends of nearly 60 years with whom she regularly visited.
In recent years, Vicki faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease with remarkable strength and resilience. She lived in memory care for most of the past year, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her with her kindness and sweet spirit. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to friend and caregiver Barbara Walker, and to all the caregivers at Mayberry Gardens who provided compassionate and dedicated care to her during this time. Their support and dedication were invaluable, and they became an integral part of her life and comfort.
After a brief period of health complications, Vicki is at rest and has been reunited with many of her loved ones who preceded her in death, especially her husband, Bob, and her parents. We take comfort in knowing that she is with her Heavenly Father, embraced by His eternal love.
Vicki is survived by her beloved children and their spouses, Mike and Marci Colvin of Celina, TX, and Marti and Jeremy Copeland of Richardson, TX, and her cherished grandchildren, Kieran Colvin, Reese Colvin, and Kinleigh Copeland. She is also survived by her brothers and their wives, Gary and Liz Maupin of Newkirk, OK, and Kirk and Patty Maupin of Broken Arrow, OK.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Faith Presbyterian Hospice (12477 Merit Drive, Dallas TX 75251). Additional services are pending in mid-August at McGilley State Line Chapel in Kansas City, Mo.
