Virginia Johanna (Burns) Daub, 98, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Kansas City, KS just in time to celebrate her beloved daughter’s birthday with her in heaven.
Virginia was born in Kansas City, MO on April 9, 1922 to Mary and Merritt Burns. She met and married her husband, Ray, in 1941 and remained lovingly married until his death in 2003.
Her love for her children, grandchildren and family was unconditional. She will be remembered for her kindness, her ability to let negative things roll off her shoulder-- calm, cool and collected. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to go for their dreams, and no matter what occupation they pursued, to always be happy.
Her laughter, extreme positivity and pies will be forever missed. Her grandchildren cherish the overnight visits when they would bake biscuits in the morning. They remember she was always cooking and had toys for them to play with. Her freezer contained at least three kinds of ice cream which she served after every meal. Her children remember eating ice cream while watching TV in the evenings and enjoying the homemade cookies, brownies and pies that she baked.
When Virginia worked at the JC Penney diner, the older grandkids enjoyed seeing her there. Some of them were fortunate enough to ride the bus to the Chiefs games with her and Grandpa. Virginia was a fervent Chiefs fan, holding season tickets for many years, sitting in the cold, dressed appropriately, of course, and cheering along with all the fans.
She enjoyed bowling with her husband, Ray and many friends. Their first date was a bowling outing with Jean and Cliff DeWolf who introduced them. After he passed Mike, Diane, Walter and Susan joined her in a league at Strike N Spare, where she continued bowling into her 90’s.
She was physically active. She enjoyed walking and water aerobics. She especially enjoyed sharing the pool at the apartment complex with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a lifelong Democrat and enjoyed talking politics. She expressed strong opinions, never afraid to stand her ground.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Jerry, Dorothy, and Bill, daughter Patty, son-in-law Kevin, and the love of her life Ray.
She is survived by her sister Vi McFarland, children Mike (Linda) Daub, Diana (Walter) French, and Susan Kelly; nine grandchildren: Joyce Norris (David), Lisa Dotson (Marty), Stephen Craig (Denise), Karen Steele (Jeff), Jim Oshel, Evan Oshel (Alice), Patrick Kelly (Tina), Johanna Kelley (Michael), and Debbie French; Twelve great-grandchildren: Alex (Jennifer) and Olivia Dotson, Jacob and Joshua Steele, Ariandny Vera, Alfonso Craig, Giovanna Colgrove, Daniel McMahan, Josh Beach, Tylynn Gable, Nora Kelley, and Baby girl Kelley (due April 9th) ; two great-great-grandsons: Connor and Tannor Dotson and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private for the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Therese Little Flower at 5814 Euclid, KCMO 64130 or Children’s Mercy Hospital.
