Walter (Walt) Roseburrough, 92, passed away on March 24, 2012. Walt was born in Iowa on February 2, 1920 to Walter F. and Eliza Roseburrough. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Charlie, and brother, Wendell, his beloved wife and dance partner, Marge, granddaughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Gary Gruerman.
He met Marge on a blind date in 1942 while stationed in Kansas City as an Army medic during World War II. The courtship was brief but the marriage lasted 63 years. On the night of March 24, they were once again reunited on the dance floor. Never was a polka danced so well.
After the war, Walt and Marge purchased the home they lived in the rest of their lives. He went to work for Cook Paint and also worked a second job on Saturdays to provide for his family. Walt was involved in numerous organizations throughout his lifetime. He loved to dance, bowl and play cards. He always enjoyed a good laugh and his 8 children provided plenty of opportunities for that.
In his later years, Walt cared for Marge through the many years of her declining health. After her death, he was limited by his own severe health problems. Still, he loved to hold court with his family and friends and bask in the feeling of connection with their lives.
Walt is survived by his sons, Walter (Mary Ellen), Jerry (Anna), Tom (Bena), John (Therese), and his daughters, Margie (Bruce) McHale, Mary Gruerman, Roberta Roseburrough and Lisa (Jeff) Weis. Walt also leaves 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Thanks to all of the St. Luke’s Hospice Care Team, especially to nurses, Delisa, Lauren and Trish. Our family would also like to give our heartfelt thanks to Raiza, who has given Walt care and friendship for 6 years.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart/Guadalupe Church, 2544 Madison, on Tuesday, March 27 from 6 to 8 P.M. The rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M..
