It is with profound sadness that our beloved, sweet, dear mother, Wanda (Shoemaker) Ebert passed away very peacefully and pain free on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the "young" age of 99 years at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO. She spent 10 days there after a brief illness. She lived in the same house in NKCMO for 66 years before moving to McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff her last 10 years.
She was born to her parents, Robert and Frances (Bentson) Shoemaker on May 6, 1925 in Hume, MO and moved to Rich Hill, MO in 1934. Upon her graduation from Rich Hill High School in 1943, she moved to Kansas City, MO at the age of 19. She attended Park College (University) one semester when her funds ran out. She then took a drafting course working for Quality Hill Dress Company and from there went to work for Mercantile Bank & Trust Company (currently USBank). She began as a Savings Teller and ultimately was promoted to the Trust Department. She served there for 40 years before retirement in 1985.
She married Edward Ebert on August 2, 1948 in KCMO. They met because he had a Savings Account at the bank! They were married 44 years upon Edward's passing November 10, 1992. The couple had 2 children, David of Blue Springs, MO and Sharman (Felton) of Maryville, MO.
Wanda had an abundant amount of amazing God-given qualities and if one was blessed to know her, then they loved her. She was a strong Christian, a loyal friend, generous, trustworthy, kind and coupled with her wit and humor, will remain in our hearts forever. She had been an active and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of NKC for 50 years, member on the NKC Park Board, attended many NKC Council meetings, in the NKC Historical Society, delivered Meals on Wheels for 23 years, and volunteered at NKC Hospice for 10 years. She audited classes at Park University in her "older" years plus going on Elderhostel programs now known as Road Scholar. She loved history, art, reading, doing a variety of crafts, going on Home Tours, attending Glenn Miller Festivals, involved in her grandchildren and great grands' activities and definitely traveling and those cruises!!! She had been to NYC (saw Broadway Shows & stayed at the Waldorf), WDC, New Zealand, Europe, the Panama Canal, Jamaica, Alaska (with her family), the Holy Land & Brazil (several times to visit her AFS Student).
Wanda is preceded in death by; her parents and her husband. She leaves her 2 children (and their spouses); 6 grandchildren; 11 great grands and so many close friends.
She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her to offer wisdom, support and love.
To honor her 99 years and celebrate the love she shared a memorial is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64119
We invite all that knew her to join her family in remembering a truly remarkable lady who had a life well lived. All of us will miss her terribly....May God bless her...
