Wanda Lee Ferguson

Wanda Lee Ferguson, 91, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away April 28, 2015. Mrs. Ferguson was born September 1, 1923 in Carmen, OK, daughter of Alva M. and Rose A. (Liebrand) Markle. She met the love of her life David T. Ferguson and they were married July 18, 1941 and spent the next 62 years together before his passing in 2003. She was a loving mother and very devoted to her family. She began her musical career playing the piano at the age of two accompanied by her father, and played an entire musical score at age five. She taught music, served as musical director at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and was pianist for the Loncar-Marley Dancing School.

Her talent as a pianist has taken her to venues that include the Alameda Plaza, Hilton, President, and the Muehlbach Hotels, all in Kansas City, She was music director at Westlake Christian Church and formed the Choraliers at Lake of the Ozarks, providing music at the American Legion Zack Wheat Post and the Laurie Nursing Home. At the Sunrise Beach Little Theatre, she directed four plays, as well as provided the music for those plays and 12 others, and played the piano during dinner and breaks between acts!

While living in Chandler, Arizona, Wanda continued her musical career at multiple venues in the Phoenix area.

When Wanda returned to the Lake of the Ozarks, she traveled to the State Capital in Jefferson City to play for the Governor’s Reception and Concert in 2005.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mona Turner and Claudia Remington. Wanda is survived by her brother Al Markle; sons David Ferguson (Linda) of La Quinta, CA, Michael Ferguson (Debbie) of Sunrise Beach, MO and Pat Ferguson (Nancy) of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter Chris Ann Bergman (Bill) of Porter Ranch, CA; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; extended family and friends throughout the country.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road.
