Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Margie. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Stanley Romi; her daughter Kimberly Romi; her sister Delpha Mae “Dee” Spalding; her brother Richard Lee Clark, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, adopted family and cherished friends.
Wanda was born July 3, 1947 in Hoisington, Kansas to Junior and Margaret Clark (Summerskill) and moved to the Kansas City area with her family in 1955. She attended Paseo High School, where she met many of her lifelong friends, before graduating in 1965. Over the years, she worked at numerous car dealerships where, once again, she made many long-lasting relationships (she had a knack for it!) and became well-respected in the industry during her working years.
Wanda loved cars and enjoyed attending classic car shows with her family and friends. Being a true Kansas Citian, she was a lifelong fan of the Chiefs and the Royals. She also enjoyed riding 4-wheelers, and attending concerts with her daughter, Kim, and was notorious for adopting any animal that might happen to wander into her general vicinity. Most of all, she simply loved having people around, the more the merrier.
Wanda had more adopted sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandkids than anyone would believe. Many people called her their best friend because she had a way of making each person feel special and loved. She was full of as much love, as she was loyalty and generosity for her family and friends. She took everyone in as her own, with gifts of hospitality, friendship, unconventional counseling and unconditional love. Her fierce love for us also gave her the right to speak frankly with each of us without any of us taking her wise remarks too personally. She wore her heart on her sleeve and her thoughts on her face, followed by honest expression of those thoughts from her mouth.
She may not be here in body, but make no mistake, she will always be here in spirit. We are grateful for the many beautiful, hilarious, cantankerous, joyful days we were blessed to share with her, and we will cherish her memory for the rest of our days.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the compassion and care shown to Wanda and our family by the ICU staff at Menorah Medical Center. From the moment Wanda arrived there, each caregiver was attentive, informative and compassionate. We are deeply appreciative for being allowed to spend time with Wanda – often in large groups – and for their understanding and kindness as we said our goodbyes.
Given Wanda’s love of animals, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: P.A.W.S. www.kcpaws.org or Pawsitive Tails at www.pawsitivetailskc.org. (If preferred, checks can be made to Pawsitive Tails and mailed to 13707 Cody Street, Overland Park, KS 66221)
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, 11:00AM to 3:00PM at Faulkner’s Ranch, 10600 Raytown Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64134. Condolences may be left on this page.
